Five Things Every Business Owner Can Do TODAY to Take Better Care of Herself
It was awful!
I woke up that Tuesday, expecting to jump into my day…but my body had other plans. As my eyes opened and I came into consciousness, my throat felt as if I’d swallowed gravel. Over the next week, I was more than under the weather – I was completely wiped out!
Looking back, I realize exactly how I ended up so sick. For weeks, I’d been running my business – and my life – on fumes. Every day, I would flit from one activity to the next with no downtime. It was back to back non-stop action. Since I refused to listen to my body’s signals, it shut down.
Have you ever been there?
It’s easy to become so caught up in all the things on your to-do list that you forget how important it is to take care of your health. Entrepreneurship can be a lonely and stressful journey. Here are five self-care tips that will ensure that both you & your business run smoothly this holiday season.
Express gratitude daily – even when times are tough.Whether your business is flying high or going through a rough path, there’s always something to appreciate!
By focusing on the positives of entrepreneurial life, you’ll open your mind to creative thought and ideas. Energy flows where attention goes, so stay focused on the things you love about your business, and you’ll see far more of them!
Get up. Get out. Get Moving. For a lot of business owners, much of the day’s spent sitting around working on projects and paperwork. Don’t let the day-to-day grind cause a decline in your health. Schedule workout time into your daily routine, and make it a priority to stick with it. Your bank account should be expanding, not yo
Begin your day with the end in mind. Productivity gurus almost always share the age-old wisdom to “Plan your work, and work your plan.” It’s a cliché because it’s true. The day is won before it’s begun. If you want to supercharge your daily work, and move more quickly toward your goals, plan each day the night before. You’ll eliminate unnecessary stress and wake up with energy and clarity.
Include downtime in your busy schedule. As I mentioned in the earlier story, rest and relaxation are critical. When we don’t work in tandem with our body’s rhythms, we deplete our energy and open ourselves to injury and illness. Downtime is essential because it allows the body and mind time to recharge. Give yourself permission to rest when needed.
Enjoy the little things. Running a business requires incredible focus – often to the detriment of the other thoughts and pursuits. Don’t forget to stop and smell the flowers while you’re building your empire. Sometimes a glass of wine or a warm bubble bath is exactly what you need to calm the sea of a tempestuous mind. Look for simple way to enhance your days, so that your journey to success is a pleasant one.
Entrepreneurship is a great experience – if work and life are kept in perspective. In honor of Global Entrepreneurship Week, I encourage you to take a little time to honor the key to your business’s success – you, the entrepreneur. Take care of yourself!
